Don’t watch this video, or you will lose all of your data, unless you are a fucking fool, or me :(

After years of working, with this much experience from my own mistakes, I know some advanced stuff about computers. And at this stage, I never thought that I would ever lose my data (wipe the entire hard disk all partitions) while installing an OS or by mistake. But today, my streak was ended by some idiot, who posted this video about fixing a problem with the hard drive, but does not tell in advance that this process will erase your entire hard drive. I fell into this trap, and horribly injured.

How did we allow such a vulgar trap to exist in the internet?

  1. the thing is, any time youre doing an operating system install, you do it at the risk of wiping all data and partitions.

i did it earlier this year, after ages of being more careful. what i did was, i was MODIFYING an os installation script, one that i KNEW would erase all data on a partition.

and, i missed ONE of several parts of thre script that would remove data… oops. now i happen to know the author of that script personally, its not his fault– the script even warns you. you cant trust youtube videos to get everything right. cant, shouldnt, will never be able to. you cant even trust the very best installation software to get it right every time. every os install carries this risk– either a little or a lot. you have to know that before installing any operating system.
